Spontenous strike against SASB cripples life
Srinagar, Jun 25 (UNI) Life remained crippled for the second day today due to a spontaneous strike in protest against the transfer of 800 kanals of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and police action against peaceful processionists that left one dead and more than 150 wounded during the past two days.
Shops and business establishments in the entire city remained closed and traffic was off the road on all routes though there was no strike called by any organisation.
The educational institutions wore a deserted look while banks, petrol pumps and government-controlled ration depots also remained closed.
Work in government offices and other public undertakings was affected as majority employees could not make it to their offices due to non-availability of transport.
A report from Baramulla said complete shut down was observed in the town and other major towns in north Kashmir with almost all shops and business establishments remained closed.
Traffic was also off the roads.
Similar reports were also received from other major towns of the valley.
