Shillong, Jun 25 (UNI) The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has not renewed the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) issued to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) last year for construction work.
The UCIL is facing stiff opposition from various quarters and the subsequent constitution of all party committee by the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) government to solve the issue on uranimum mining.
The NOC was issued to the UCIL in February last year and its validity expired on March 31 this year.
The KHADC Chief Executive Member said the NOC could not be renewed due to certain tehnical problems.
The NOC was issued to the UCIL only for construction work and not for mining and it could be issued for uranium mining only after approval from the state government, he stated.
