Girl commits suicide, no impact of fatwa by Ulema
Srinagar Jun 25: A 15-year-old girl committed suicide in the Kashmir valley, official sources said today.
They said Gousia consumed some poisonous substance in her Buna Schuchan Anantnag house. She was immediately admitted to the District Hospital at Anantnag where she died, they added.
A report from Baramulla said about 6 people, including five women and girls, committed suicide in north Kashmir during the past two weeks.
The sudden increase in suicide incidents in north Kashmir has shocked the people, besides social and religious organisations.
There was no impact of the fatwa issued by the Muslim Ulema declaring that suicide is an un-Islamic act. Despite the fatwa, the number of suicide incidents has increased and at an average two people are taking the extreme step almost daily.
