Steel secy R S Pandey receives UNPS Award
New Delhi, Jun 24 (UNI) Secretary Ministry of Steel R S Pandey has received the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award for a unique programme of communitisation of Public Institutions and Services in Nagaland.
The Award was presented at the UN Head Quarters in New York last night to mark the Public Service Day.
The programme of communitisation of Public Institutions and Services was conceptualised and implemented by Mr Pandey during 2002-04 when he was Chief Secretary to Government of Nagaland.
The programme has resulted in significant improvement in Government provided basic services in the area of elementary education, public health and power utilities.
Mr Pandey has also won the Civil Service Award for his contribution to governance through this innovative programme.
He headed a three-member delegation including the present Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Lalhuma and Mr V Sakhri, Secretary to Government of Nagaland which received the Award.
The Award consists of a trophy and a certificate.
Mr Pandey is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service Officer of Nagaland cadre. He has held several important positions including that of Secretary Ministry of Steel since July 26, 2006.
There
are
twelve
winners
from
different
parts
of
the
world
this
year
including
the
Communitization
programme
from
India.
The
award
is
considered
as
the
most
prestigious
recognition
of
excellence
in
the
public
services,
