New Delhi, Jun 24 (UNI) The Election Commission has recognised the Rashtriya Janata Dal as the National Party on the basis of its poll performance in Nagaland assembly elections.
The Election Commission conveyed this to RJD President Lalu Prasad in a communication here today. The RJD till now was recognised as the state party in Bihar, Jharkhand and Manipur.
EC Secretary K F Wilfred said after reviewing the poll performance of political parties in the recent assembly polls held earlier this year, found that the RJD fulfilled the conditions laid down in para 6B(i) of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968 for recognition as a National Party. So, the Commission has decided to recognise RJD as a national party under the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation&Allotment) Order, 1968.
He said the party may intimate its choice of symbol to be alloted as the reserved symbol of the party as a National Party.
If the choice of symbol other than Hurricane Lamp, the reserved symbol of the party in Bihar, Jharkhand and Manipur, then a clear drawing or design of the symbol should also be submitted.
