HP Election Commission notifies PRI by-elections programme

Shimla, Jun 24 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Election Commission today notifies the election programme for the conduct of by-election to fill up the vacant seats in Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Election Commissioner Rajendar Bhattacharya said that the nomination papers for the office bearer of Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad shall be filed from July 3 to 5. The scrutiny of nomination papers would be on July 7 and withdrawal of candidature on July 9.

Ms Bhattacharya stated that on July 9, immediately after the time of withdrawal is over, the list of contesting candidates will show the name of symbol allotted to them and the list of polling stations shall be published and pasted on or before July 3 and added that the date of poll if necessary be on July 20.

She further stated that the counting of votes for members and pradhans of Gram Panchayats shall be taken up on the date of poll immediately after the close of the poll at the Gram Panchayat Headquarters. The counting of votes for members of Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad shall be taken up on July 22 at respective block headquarters.

The process of election shall be completed by July 25, she informed.
