Srinagar, Jun 24: A glacier caved in on the base camp Baltal- Amarnath cave route today, forcing authorities to stop pilgrims, an official at the camp said.
A glacier caved in at Sangam en route to cave shrine, an official at the base camp Baltal told UNI over phone.
The yatries had been stopped on both sides of the glacier, he said adding the pilgrims will be allowed only after the area will be declared safe for trekking.
He said a large number of pilgrims on the way back to Baltal after darshan are also stranded on other side of the Sangam.
The official said 7380 pilgrims left the camp this morning towards the shrine.
However, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) Director Public Relations Madan Mantoo was not available to comment.
The board was not sharing any information about the pilgrimage with the valley based journalists after the land transfer controversy and all details are being sent to Jammu.
