GEAC meets tomorrow on new GM varieties amid Greenpeace protest
New Delhi, Jun 24 (UNI) The 86th meeting of the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) will meet tomorrow here to consider proposals regarding certain pharmaceutical manufacture, commercial release of transgenic crops in various regions and field trials of BT cotton expressing new genes or events amid protests from Greenpeace.
Besides examining the applications from various companies for approval of new genes or events during the coming Kharif season, the committee will also hear representation from Greenpeace protesting against illegal GM food imports.
In all, 34 applications from various companies will come for review.
