Rameswaram, Jun 24: Hundreds of fishermen would soon obstruct rail and vehicular traffic at Pamban near here to draw the attention of World community about the atrocities of Sri Lankan Navy against Indian fishermen.
The fishermen along with their family members would block the traffic at Pamban, the gateway to the pilgrim centre here, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Fishermen Federation General Secretary N J Bose told the sources here today.
'We are left with no other option, except to resort to such an agitation to tell the entire world about our plight, as the Indian government had failed to safeguard the lives of our innocent fishermen,'' he added.
Claiming that no country in the world resort to firing against fishermen, if they cross over the territorial waters of other nations, he alleged that the Lankan navy was indulging in all sorts of atrocities against Indian fishermen.
He said fishing industry in Rameswaram would be badly affected if the Indian Government failed to intervene to stop the atrocities of the Lankan Navy.
