Midnapore, Jun 24 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today expressed his displeasure over the way the State Government had handled the flood situation in East and West Midnapore districts.
Talking to newsmen here, Mr Dasmunshi said, '' I am not at all happy with the way the state government has handled the flood situation. The measures, taken by the state government, to combat flood and distribute relief materials is totally hopeless. '' '' Whereever I have visited people have complained that they are not getting relief. People are residing in open areas and the rescue operation is not satisfactory, '' Mr Dasmunsi stated.
Army choppers and speed boats, pressed into service to rescue the marooned people, were not sufficient, he alleged.
Mr Dasmunshi also alleged that hungry people on his way to Sabong had complained that even after ten days of flood the district administration had not provided any relief material and even drinking water.
The state government did not take any warning from the flood warning mechanism, formed by neighbouring states, and had not even alerted the people of the concerned areas, he alleged.
Besides this, the Central government had sanctioned first phase of Keleghai Kapaleswari project allotting Rs 78 crore, but the state government could not submit any draft plan for the project in the last one year.
'' I will inform the matter to Prime Minister Manmohon Singh. I will also hold talks with the Chief Minister on non-availability of relief materials, he said.
