Dehra Dun, Jun 24 (UNI) The BJP government in Uttarakhand has organised a Janta Sammelan tomorrow in an attempt to revive its slumping popularity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The sammelan, being held in 50 blocks of the state, will provide people with an opportunity to interact directly with the members of the State Government.
Chief Minister B C Khanduri will inaugurate the sammelan at Raipur town of this district tomorrow. It will conclude on July 4.
Mr Khanduri has encouraged members of his Cabinet, newly-elected ward members and other officials to consolidate the party's vote bank by directly interacting with the people and noting down their suggestions on how to better the performance of the one and a half year old BJP government in the state.
Mr Khanduri will visit people living in remote villages, some of which have never been visited by any other Chief Minister.
The BJP, fresh from its victory in the civic body polls, is confident of wresting all the five Lok Sabha seats. Presently, Almoda and Pauri Garhwal are under BJP rule, Nainital and Tehri Garhwal are under Congress control while the Samajwadi Party has one Lok Sabha seat of Haridwar.
The Opposition Congress, BSP and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) have also geared themselves for the coming elections. Though the BSP does not have a single Lok Sabha seat, it has eight MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha.
