15 injured in police firing in air, tear gas on Yatra route
Srinagar, Jun 24 (UNI) At least 15 people were injured when security forces fired in the air, burst tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators at Ganderbal on Srinagar- Baltal, Amarnath base camp route.
The demonstrators were protesting the transfer of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and killing of youth in firing in the down town city last night.
Official sources said hundreds of people today blocked the Yatra route at Ganderbal, raising slogans against the SASB and authorities.
They were demanding cancellation of land transfer order to SASB and action against the security personnel responsible for yesterday's firing in which a youth was killed and several others injured city.
However, when the demonstrators refused to allow traffic, including vehicles carrying yatries, security forces opened fire in the air and police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
