Sikhs hold protest marches in Punjab
Chandigarh, Jun 23 (UNI) Activists of various Sikh organisations today took out marches in various parts of Punjab, protesting against the killing of a member of the Sikh community by the security guard of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh in Mumbai on Friday.
In Moga, more than 250 activists of various Sikh organisations including All India Sikh Students Federation (Mehta-Chawla group), SAD 1920, Khalsa Action Committee, SAD Youth Wing 1920 and Ek Noor Khalsa, Fauj took out a procession from Gurdwara Singh Sabha demanding the Dera Chief's immediate arrest. Heavy police force escorted the protestors to check any untoward incident.
All the shops and commercial establishments in the district remained closed in response to a call given by the various Sikh organisations.
In Sangrur's Dhirba town, some Sikh protestors burnt the copies of a daily paper, 'Sach Kahu', published by Dera Sacha Sauda.
Brandishing swords, more than a hundred activists of various Sikh organisations took out a protest march and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in Kapurthala, demanding the arrest of the Dera Chief.
The protests passed off peacefully and no report of any untoward incident was received from anywhere in the state.
