Sensex opens low at 14,423.05 pts, 148 pts down

Mumbai, Jun 23: The key benchmark Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today resumed negative at 14,423.05 points with a massive loss of 148.24 points from its last close of 14,471.29 on sustained heavy offloading by local operators on weak advice from global markets. The select heavy weight index stocks opened lower on weak Asian market cues. The market breadth was weak.

However, software stocks advanced as Rupee fell to near 14-month low against the Dollar. There was uncertainty political development in UPA government and also worried about N-power burning issue with left party, which still deadlock after the discussion. Later, the 30-share BSE Sensex was down 287.96 points or 1.98 per cent at 15,283.33. Sensex opened 148.24 points lower at 15,423.05 and slipped further to touch a low of 14,278.88 in early trade. At the day's low, the Sensex lost 213.69 points. At the day's high of 14,509.26, Sensex lost 62.03 points in early trade. The broader-based S &P CNX Nifty was down 78.60 points or 1.15 per cent at 4,268.95 points from its last finish of 4,347.55 points. It resumed slight high at 4,351.15 points, later it recorded the day's high at 4,351.25 and a low at 4,254.15 points.

India's largest dam builder Jaiprakash Associates slumped 3.81 per cent to Rs 160.25 on 4.01 lakh shares. It was the top loser from Sensex pack. Hindalco Industries was down by 2.73 per cent to Rs 156.60 followed by Ranbaxy Laboratories by 2.30 per cent to Rs 530.25, and Larsen &Toubro by 2 per cent to Rs 2,513.10 edged lower from Sensex pack.

India's largest private sector company in terms of market capitalisation and oil refiner Reliance Industries (RIL) shed 1.59 per cent to Rs 2,067 on 1.68 lakh shares. India's fourth largest software services exporter Satyam Computer Services advanced 2.29 per cent to Rs 465.20 on 62,548 shares. It was the top gainer from Sensex pack.

Other software pivotals, Wipro was up 1.05 per cent to Rs 479.15 followed by TCS by 1.36 per cent to Rs 875.10 and Infosys by 1.06 per cent to Rs 1,847 also logged gains. ONGC was up 1.57 per cent to Rs 880.50 and NTPC gained 0.86 per cent to Rs 164 were the other gainers from Sensex pack.
