Chandigarh, Jun 23 (UNI) The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today appealed to the party high command to take congnizance of Capt Amarinder Singh's utterances against PPCC president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and restrain him from making statements that were harmful for the party.
''The situation (in the Congress) is going from bad to worse, so the high command should take notice of Capt Singh,'' PPCC chief spokesperson Bir Devinder Singh said with reference to the former Chief Minister's claims that the case registered by the Vigilance Bureau last week against him was at the instance of Ms Bhattal, who had adopted a 'soft attitude' towards the Badal clan.
Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Devinder Singh claimed that the party high command should seize of the activities of Capt Singh. He, however, described the fresh case registered against Capt Singh as an ''unfortunate development''.
However, there is no truth in the claims of Capt Singh that the case was registered at the behest of Ms Bhattal, he added. Since her appointment as PPCC president, she has been fighting against the atrocities of the SAD-BJP government against Congress workers, he said while questioning the political wisdom of Capt Singh in leveling such baseless accusations.
''Has Capt Singh come forward to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any Congress worker who has been a victim of the atrocities of the state government,'' Mr Devinder Singh said while posing a question to the former Chief Minister. The situation for the Congress in Punjab has become rather unfortunate, he observed.
