Kerala a viable investment destination for Singapore

Kochi, Jun 23 (UNI) Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Balaji Sadasivan today said his country was interested in investing in various sectors in the Kerala.

Addressing a gathering at the Indian Chamber of Commerce&Industry (ICCI) here, Dr Sadasivan said the delegation was trying to study new developments in various sectors, including tourism, IT, manufacturing and agro-business, and the scope for investment in these sectors.

He said following the high social development of Kerala, the state had a tremendous talent pool and this would foster its economic development.

'' The state's tourism industry was thriving and there are opportunities in IT, manufacturing and agro-business sectors, attracting the business community in Singapore,'' he said.

There were sectors in Singapore, which would be of interest to investors in Kerala, he said and added around 2,500 Indian companies had opened their offices in the last five years in Singapore, he added.

Before coming here, the 25-member delegation visited Gujarat to study investment opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President R Mohandas said Singapore had investment opporunities Kerala in sectors like bio-technology, major and minor ports development, road infrastructure, IT, health and health tourism, construction activities and education.
