Lucknow, Jun 23 (UNI) Even as rising river Cane in impoverished Bundelkhand region has started to recede, several districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh are under flood threat due to over flowing rivers following incessant rainfall in the region.
In Banda, river Cane, which was flowing 80 cms above the danger mark and had entered 30 villages so far, was receeding at the rate of 20 cms/hr.
On the other hand, rainfall continued to play havoc in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions of eastern UP, where rivers Ghaghra, Rapti, Gandhak, Budhi Rapti were swelling at a fast pace.
In Lakhimpur Kheri, rains had destroyed several hectares of agricultural land besides submerging several villages in Paliyakala and Nighasan tehsil, forcing the villagers to migrate to higher alttitudes and safer areas.
Reports from Azamgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Gonda, Faizabad and Mau also confirmed that river water had entered many villages of the districts.
In Gonda, water slapping the walls of the dams at Bhikaripur, Elgin and Sakraura has caused cracks, which were being speedily repaired by the district administration.
