Coast Guard declares Port Blair as selection centre
Port Blair, June 23(UNI) The Coast Guard Headquarter has declared Port Blair as a centre for the conduct of preliminary selection for the post of Assistant Commandant.
Public Relation Officer of Coast Guard's Andaman and Nicobar Region Commandant Akshay Jain told UNI here today that though direct recruitment into the Coast Guard started in 1979, due to poor response from these islands sufficient candidates were not available for declaring Port Blair as a centre for preliminary selection of the officers.
"Coast Guard, however, has been undertaking selection of enrolled personnel below the rank of officers at Port Blair on regular basis," he added.
The recruitment for the officers was being conducted every six months, he said.
