Appropriation of mosque for disabled varsity irks Muslims
Lucknow, Jun 23 (UNI) The Muslim community in the Uttar Pradesh capital today expressed their anguish over the appropriation of Sahdara mosque in the Kokori locality by the state government for construction of a university for disabled.
'' Nether the government paid any compensation nor completed any legal formality to acquire the 22 bighas and 2 biswa land of the mosque, which is the property of the Shia Wakf Board,'' said Dr Waqar Mehendi, Mutwalli (manager) of the Sahdara mosque, located at Mohana road under the Kokori Police station.
Demanding that the state government should leave the entire area of the mosque as it was related to the religious sentiment of the community for the last four decades, Dr Mehendi said the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has also put a stay on transfer of land of the mosque in connection with earlier petition, then why was the government heading towards acquirement.
He also said that the area of the mosque could be left out by the government as 78 acres of land had already been acquired for the purpose of constructing the first even university disabled in the state.
