Govt proposes industrial corridor along National Highways
Hubli, Jun 22 (UNI) The Karnataka government is contemplating setting up industrial corridors along the National Highways 4 and 218 in the state, Large and Medium Scale Industries Minister Murgesh Nirani said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said a team of officials led by Mr Rajakumar Khatri would visit the two Highways and explore the infrastructure and potential land for acquisition, to set up the corridor.
The team is expected to give its report soon, he added.
Mr Nirani said it was also proposed to develop Bellary and set up a steel plant and a sponge iron plant in Chitradurga district in the wake of the raw material available in the area.
He said the state government was also considering setting up food processing units in Mumbai-Karnataka areas of Bijapur, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Haveri and Belgaum districts.
Replying to a question, the Minister said while two SEZs would be set up in Belgaum district, Dharwad district would have one.
