Army expedition to Milam glacier flagged in

Jalandhar, Jun 22 (UNI) Lt Gen S S Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps flagged in a team of one Officer, two Junior Commissioned Officers and 15 Other Ranks who carried out the arduous trekking expedition to Milam Glacier in Uttarakhand Hills.

The trek team set up base camp at Munsyari, North of Pithoragarh in the Western portion of Uttarakhand and climbed to Milam Glacier, located at an elevation of 13,500 feet yesterday, covering a distance of 53 kms in four days with night halts at Lilam (2,310m), Bugdiyar (2,500m), Reilkot (3,130m) and Milam Village (3,420m).

The expedition team leader, Javed Akhtar debriefed the senior officers on the movement to Uttarakhand, process of acclimatisation in the high altitude area and conduct of the trek. In particular, he emphasised on the spirit of adventure and camaraderie which were the highlights of the trips.

At a press interaction after the debrief, Lt Gen SS Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps and Maj Gen Munish Sibal, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division commended the efforts of the trekking team and reiterated the Indian Army's commitment towards enhancing the spirit of adventure in the youth of the country.
