Chennai, Jun 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has taken several initiatives for the distribution of quality inputs like seeds and fertilisers as farmers in the state have started the Kuruvai cultivation vigorously after the opening of Mettur Reservoir on the scheduled date of June 12.
An official release here said the State Government after a special meeting with fertiliser manufacturers, asked them to hasten up the movement of fertilisers from port to districts and the department officials to monitor the movement of fertilisers on a daily basis.
With respect to DAP, adequate quantity of 50,846 metric tonnes was made available as against June requirement of 30,000 metric tonnes, it said adding 22,456 metric tonnes of DAP has so far been distributed.
The Agricultural Production Commissioner and Secretary to Government has instructed the TANFED to ensure that every Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank in the district should have adequate stock and the availability of fertilisers be displayed in a board indicating the price details.
To monitor the availability of fertilisers throughout the State, a special Fertiliser Monitoring Cell was functioning since June 16 both at state and districts level.
In case of any complaints received from the farmers, the Assistant Director of Agriculture (Quality Control) has been instructed to take corrective steps on a war-footing manner, the release said.
The State Government is also constantly pursuing the Centre to obtain the required quantity of fertilisers for the month of July, the release added.
