Hooghly, Jun 21 (UNI) The new building of Srirampur Sub-divisional Court was today inaugurated by Kolkata High Court Chief Justice S S Nijjar, in the presence of state Law Minister Rabilal Moitra.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Justice Nijjar said the state's judicial system was facing problems in its infrastructure which invested to the delay in judgement. Stating that other states were facing similar problems, he estimated that around 37 lakh cases were pending all over India in various high courts.
According to him, unless the personnel of the court, ranging from advocates to law-clerks, increased their involvement, boosting the number of judges would not help.
The Chief Justice also called for strict observance of the norm upheld recently by the apex court in the state, which prohibited the staff from staging demonstrations in the court premises.
The single-storeyed building, sprawling over an area of 5082.5 sq feet, entailed Rs 38 lakh for its construction that begun on October 4, 2005.
Justice Pranab Chattopadhyay of Kolkata High Court, District Magistrate Vinod Kumar and Srirampur Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sasim Barai were among others present on the occasion.
