Sikh community members halt CR trains at Mulund

Mumbai, Jun 21: Central Railway (CR) main line trains were halted today following stone pelting and ransacking incidents at Mulund Railway station by Sikh community, who were protesting yesterday's firing at protestors by security guard of Ram Rahim Singh, the controversial spiritual leader of Dera Sachcha Sauda.

In firing, one person was killed and three others were injured when the security guard of Ram Rahim Singh, fired at protestors, shouting slogans against him at Mulund in North-east Mumbai.

Railway Control Room sources said all the trains on the main line of CR were stopped following heavy stone pelting at Mulund Railway station. The Sikh community people were countered holding swords in their hands. Heavy police protection were made at the station.

However, local trains from harbour line of CR and Western Railway were running as per the schedule.

The mob had ransacked the stalls and furniture at the station.

Shops were forcefully shut down by the mob, the police said.

Three people - Jaidev Singh Gurusingh (30), Satnam Singh Arora (34) and Rajkumar Bhishmalal Taneja (39) who had allegedly fired were arrested and crime branch of city police is investigating the matter.

They were booked under 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It may be noted that a group of Sikh community held a protest against Ram Rahim Singh at Nirmal Lifestyle Mall in Mulund as Rahim had come to attend a programme there.

Most of the educational institutes, run by the Sikh community will remain closed today to protest against the firing. A group of the community also made peaceful protest outside Mulund Police station.
