New Delhi, Jun 21 (UNI) Three of a family, including a woman, were injured after three motorcycle-borne miscreants fired at them in Mayur Vihar area of east Delhi in a bid to rob them early today.
The incident took place at about 0430 hrs at Mayur Vihar Phase-II red light where the family stopped for a while in their car, according to sources.
While Bijender (45) was shot in the leg, his younger brother Surender (31) was shot at thrice and was hit in the stomach and shoulder. The third bullet whizzed past him.
Bijender's wife Kanta was hit by the window pane shards after the trio fired at the car while fleeing.
Bijender said as we were waiting on the red light, one of the three men on the mobike tried to get my purse and when I resisted one of them shot at me. By that time my brother Surender, who had gone to relieve himself, returned and grappled with them. They then fired at him of which two bullets hit him while the third skimmed past him.
Later, all the three were rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital by the PCR van which came accompanied by a CATS van, where the condition of Surender was said to be stable.
Bijender and his wife Kanta were shifted to a private hospital.
While Surender runs a travel agency in Mehrauli, Bijender is an employee with the Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation. Their brother Rakesh is a contractor.
The family was returning to their home in Mehrauli from Ghaziabad after visiting a relative.
The miscreants were between 20-25 years of age.
Police said the main objective was robbery as the family said they had no enmity.
