Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 21 (UNI) Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T K A Nair today inaugurated the K R Narayanan Endowment Scheme, initiated by the Santhigiri Research Foundation, to help economically deprived students to enter the Indian Civil Services.
Handing over the endowment certificate for Rs one lakh to a student S Krishnakumar from here, he said the scheme aimed to financially assist bright students who were from poor families to take Civil Services examinations.
Ms Gauri Amma, sister of former Presient K R Narayanan, in whose honour the scheme has been launched, was present at the function.
High Commissioner of Malta Wilfred Kenely was the chief guest.
Mr Kenely said Civil Services should be made attractive for youngsters by creating better salaries and working conditions.
