Bhubaneswar,Jun21 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Orissa Asembly J B Pattnaik has been appointed as Chancellor of the Rastriya Sanskrit University at Tirupati.
Mr Pattnaik will succeed Dr V R Panchamukhi who completed his term on June 15.
The former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader has been appointed for a period of five years, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education.
Graduated from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, Mr Patnaik had received his M A degree from Banaras Hindu University. He was conferred with doctorate degrees by several universities, including the Rastriya Sanskrit University and Jagannath Sanskrit University.
The three-time Chief Minister of Orissa who was active in state politics for over four decades, had authored a number of books in Sanskrit and has been conferred with both Orissa Shitya Akademy and Kendriya Sahitya Akademy awards.
The senior Congress leader presently preoccupied with the ongoing Seva Dal camp here would soon join his new posting, his office secretary said.
