Film industry demands scrapping of entertainment tax

Indore, Jun 21 (UNI) The Central Circuit Cine Association(CCCA) has demanded the Madhya Pradesh Government to abolish entertainment tax and grant film profession status to the industry in the state.

A delegation of the Cine Association, which represents Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha region, met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently and made him aware about the problems being faced by the film industry.

Reduction in entertainment tax and abolishing it altogether at places having population of less than one lakh on the lines of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, and scrapping double taxation was demanded.

CCCA secretary Jitendra Jain told the Chief Minister that the burden of tax and piracy was not just causing loss to the film industry, but also the government treasury.

The delegation informed that entertainment tax had been abolished totally in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and a few other states.

The Chief Minister assured that necessary steps would be taken to resolve problems of the film industry.
