CPI wants land allotment to salt company cancelled
Hyderabad, June 21 (UNI) The CPI today asked the state government cancel land allotment to a private company in Prakasam District 'due to which farmers lost their fertile lands and livelihood.' Speaking to newspersons here after meeting Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at his Camp Office, CPI State Secretary K Narayana said the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government allotted 565 acre of land to the salt company for setting up its factory taking lands from farmers.
Pointing out Dr Reddy, as an Opposition leader then, had promised the land allotment would be cancelled immediately after the Congress came to power, Mr Narayana said he had not yet taken a decision after assuming charge as the Chief Minister.
Mr Narayana said the CPI urged the Chief Minister to write a letter to the Centre for the cancellation of land allotment.
If the government did not cancel the allotment, the CPI would launch agitation and not allow the company to set up industries.
