BSP withdraws support to UPA govt
New Delhi, Jun 21 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), whose relations with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) had hit a new low recently, today announced withdrawal of support to the government saying the alliance had failed the people and the nation in whose interest it had extended support to it.
The announcement of support withdrawal was made by Ms Mayawati at a press conference here this evening. She said the government had failed miserably to check inflation and the rise in prices of essential commodities especially food items and was pursuing policies which were not in the interest of the people.
The party also said that the consistent neglect of the interest of Uttar Pradesh was also one of the main reasons why it decided to part company with the UPA.
Ms Mayawati said she today sent a letter to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil informing her of the party's decision. She said copies of the letter have also been sent to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Hamid Ansari and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
