Chennai, Jun 20 (UNI) In a new welfare initiative, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced a monthly assistance of Rs 400 each to spinsters who have attaind the age of 50.
An announcement to this effect was made on the second and final day of the district collectors conference held at the state Secretariat here.
The Chief Minister said based on the recommendations of District Collectors, his government would extend the assistance of Rs 400 to spinsters and to poor women, on the lines of the assistance given to the aged women, widows and women deserted by their husbands.
The conference also urged the officials to ensure adequate stock of toor dal, Bengal gram, palm oil and wheat flour in PDS shops and prominently display items being supplied in ration shops for the benefit of the people.
It also decided to transport all the items from the godown to the fair price shops by 1400 hrs every day and fill up the 275 vacancies in food department in two week's time.
It appealed to the officials to ensure immediate supply of cooking gas in districts where there was delay.
The meeting also directed them to take steps against those spreading rumours about the free colour TV scheme and strignent action on complaints of selling the TVs in open market.
