K'taka CM lays foundation stone for Shimoga Airport

Shimoga, Jun 20 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today laid the foundation stone for the Rs 110 crore Greenfield Shimoga Airport, which is expected to give an impetus to the economic development in the region.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone, the Chief Minister said the BJP Government in Karnataka would give equal focus to all the regions for the overall development of the state.

The government was keen to expand the infrastructure facilities in rural areas to achieve equitable development. It would also help flow of investments to all the districts, he added.

The Shimoga airport, being built by a consortium of Maytas Infra Limited, NCC infrastructure Holdings Ltd and VIE India Project Development and Holdings LCC, would be completed within 24 months.

The state government had acquired 663 acres for the project and handed it over to the developers.

The airport would help to ensure better connectivity and faster growth of the region, besides providing a boost to tourism in the district.
