Kohima, Jun 20 (UNI) After the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers yesterday, the candidates of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland(DAN) and Congress, who had filed for the lone Rajya Sabha seat form Nagaland, will have a direct fight in the byelection on June 26.
According to Nagaland Assembly Secretariat sources DAN candidate Khekiho Zhimomi and Congress nominee Kewekhape Therie had filed their papers for the by-election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat, which were found valid and no one had withdrawn nomination papers.
So the election for the seat, as per instruction of the Election Commission of India, will be held at the Assembly Secretariat on June 26 .
The election was necessitated following the resignation of sitting Rajya Sabha member T R Zeliang, who had been elected to Nagaland Legislative Assembly in the March 5 elections and accordingly he was appointed as Minister for Planning and Coordination, Evaluation, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Parliamentary Affairs.
