Bharathidasan Univ concerned over mankind 'distancing from nature'
Tiruchirapalli, Jun 20 (UNI) Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor M Ponnavaikko has expressed concern over mankind distancing itself from nature 'at its own peril.' Speaking at the inaugural session of a three-day programme on 'Development of coir pith-based cyanobacterial biofertiliser cyanopith and organic farming' here yesterday, he said India had started to realise the importance of nature as was evident from the importance being accorded to Siddha system of medicine, he said while assuring the University's support for producing bio-fertiliser on its premises.
Inaugurating the programme, National Facility for Marine Cynobacteria (NFMC) Founder-Director G Subramanian explained the application of the cost-effective bio-fertiliser would nourish the soil and enhance production by 40 to 50 per cent.
Plants treated with the bio-fertiliser would also be pest-resistant, he added.
