Honda launches India's 1st hybrid car 'Civic Hybrid'

New Delhi, June 19th 2008: Now it"s the turn of car makers to join the eco-friends Bandwagon…And Honda is leading the way in India. Honda Siel Cars India launched India's first hybrid car, the Civic Hybrid in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The Civic Hybrid offers a rare combination of being environment friendly and fuel efficient. The car will be available in two colours-Premium White Pearl and Alabaster Silver. Japan's Honda Motor Company said it would start selling the hybrid car from the end of this month. Launching the car, CEO of Honda India said the car was fuel-efficient and also had a high fun-to-drive quotient.

According to the company, the hybrid car is 47 per cent more fuel efficient than its petrol counterpart. The hybrid car that is kitted with a dual engine configuration comprising a petrol and an electric engine compliment each other at different levels of speed during the journey.

At high speeds the petrol engine propels the car and as the car slows the electric motor kicks in acting as a generator that charges the electric battery in the car. The Civic hybrid that was launched in the US and Japan in 2006 has crossed sales of over 220,000 units worldwide.
