Pakistan senators urge Musharraf to secure Asif's release

Lahore, Jun 19 (UNI) Appealing to the goverment to bail out detained pacer Mohammad Asif, the Senate Standing Committee on sports has asked President Pervez Musharraf to intervene in the matter.

''Mohammad Asif is a superstar and we should not leave him alone over there. We should not spare any effort to bring him back. We request the president and the premier to intervene in the matter and bring back the superstar,'' Senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhary said.

''The board should also talk to Pakistan President, who is the patron of the board, to do something in this regard,'' he added.

Chaudhary was speaking after chairing the committee meeting at the Senate Secretariat in Islamabad yesterday.

Asif is in detention at the Dubai aiport since June 1. He was held while returning to Pakistan from Mumbai after a probihited substance was found in his possession.
