Pak student refuses US scholarship to protest Mohmand attack
Islamabad, Jun 19 (UNI) A Pakistani student has refused his Harvard University scholarship award in protest against the recently carried out US attacks on a paramilitary check post in Mohmand tribal region, which killed 11 soldiers.
The award was being presented to him by US Ambassador Anne W Patterson.
Samad Khurram refused the award during a function organised by the Roots College International at the National Art Gallery here yesterday in protest against the US attacks.
The US Ambassador regretted the attacks, terming them a ''terrible misunderstanding'', but refuted Khurram's notion, maintaining that currently there were 5,400 Pakistani students studying in the US.
The entire hall resounded with thunderous applause for the student, who was later restricted by the management from talking to mediapersons.
In her speech, Ms Patterson underscored the need for ''people to people ties'' to strengthen the relationship between Pakistan and the US.
