Srinagar, Jun 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Gani Vakil has urged Hurriyat Conference (HC) to contest the coming Assembly election and prove their representative character.
'' Your participation in the assembly polls would testify your character,'' Mr Vakil, who is also senior Vice-President of the state Congress said at a public meeting here today.
He said the elections were the ideal opportunity for the HC to prove their representative character.
''Their participation in the election would testify their belief in the democratic values and popular sovereignty'', he added.
The Centre and state government were committed to hold free and fair elections in the state to enable all political parties including HC to contest with power of ballots,'' he said and expressed the hope of massive turn out in the polls, scheduled to be held later this year.
