GO 76: Lok Satta demands free Eng. education till XII
Hyderabad, Jun 19 (UNI) Endorsing Andhra Pradesh government's recent move to make English the medium of instruction in schools, the Lok Satta Party today demanded that it should guarantee free, good quality English education up to 12th standard for every child, irrespective of caste, gender and economic status.
Addressing newspersons here, party President Jayaprakash Narayan alleged that the decline of government schools and abdication of government from education and the indifferent quality of most private schools resulted in stunting the growth of most poor and low-income children and limiting their opportunities for advancement in life.
He endorsed the broad trust of GO 76 under which upper primary classes were being integrated with high schools, English medium of instruction was being introduced from Class VI and the CBSE syllabus was to be followed in all schools in the public sector.
Appealing to parties, media and parents to focus on quality education, Dr Narayan welcomed the integration of Classes VI and VII with neighbouring high schools, saying the students will get better infrastructure and more teachers.
On the medium of instruction, he said the first few years of schooling should be in the language in which a child communicates with family and peers. Later it should be switched over to English because of the enormous demand from society.
