Kozhikode (Kerala), June 19 : Believe it or not an eagle, known to be one of the main predators and enemy to the chicken, is nurturing two chicks as its own children in Kozhikode district here and showcasing how love and affection exist in the birds' world.
Owned by Madhavan, a resident here, the eagle eats and lives with the two week old chicken and cares for them as its own offspring.
The owner of the eagle Madhavan originally got this eagle from a coconut vendor with its limb broken and unable to move or fly after falling from a coconut tree around three months back.
With Madhavan's caring, the eagle got cured and since then it has developed a bonding with the family.
Though the eagle has not been trained by anyone, it protects the chicken under its feather and sometimes feeds them with its own beak, says Madhavan.
"We never trained it to do so but it does of its own and incubate the eggs when the mother hen is not around even it fled the hen during, it stays most of the time with these little ones to feed them and show a different kind of close relationship. It also loves our children a lot and accompany them to the cricket field and comes back home with children".
It creates sounds when any unknown person tries to enter the house and it flees such individuals away with its noise.
This unique case reinforces the fact that even birds have feelings for others and given a chance they can exhibit it much better than the so-called civilised society of human beings. y Juhan Samuel
