Jammu, Jun 19 (UNI) Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit today held Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak responsible for deterioration and destruction of Dogra heritage, which was being preserved since decades in State Archives Library in historical Mubarak Mandi.
''Despite being a Dogra, Mr Charak, who is also vice chairman of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, has raised no voice against the shifting of valuable assets of Dogra dynasty from State Archives to Ram Singh Palace, which is in shambles and may collapse any time,'' state BJP vice president and spokesman Prof Hari Om alleged at a press conference here this afternoon.
Blaming the coalition partners for suppressing the Dogra culture, Prof Hari Om said, ''Congress-led ruling coalition is hatching a conspiracy to destroy the invaluable printed works including administration reports, gazetteers, census reports, rare books, which deal with the history and culture of the Dogras.'' ''The state government is pursuing the line of Sheikh Abdullah and other Kashmir based rulers, who hate everything connected with the Dogras,'' the BJP spokesman alleged adding, ''the elements in the state's political establishment have also joined hands with the senior officers of the State Archives in the conspiracy.'' However, Prof Hari Om said that the heritage assets should not be shifted to the Ram Singh Palace, which is in a state of decay and demanded that they should be shifted to Kala Kendra, which has been constructed to preserve valuable assets, historical art and culture of the state.
Besides, the BJP also hailed the appointment of former Home and Defence Secretary N N Vohra as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and expected him to further improve the two Shrine Boards.
