Atul Rao returns, wife withdraws missing complaint
Mangalore, Jun 19 (UNI) Atul Rao, reportedly involved in the alleged suicide of Padmapriya, wife of Udupi BJP Legislator K Raghupathy Bhat, on June 15 in New Delhi, was brought to the office of IGP (Western Range) here today.
Following his return, Mr Rao's wife withdrew the Habeas Corpus petition filed before Karnataka High Court.
Police said Rao was taken to Delhi by a police team from Udupi to trace the location where Padmapriya was staying. The Delhi police, who detained Rao for questioning, had since handed him over to the Karnataka police.
He was brought to the IGP office here from Delhi via Bangalore at about 1330 hrs.
IGP A M Prasad, talking to newspersons here, said Rao was taken to Delhi by the Karnataka police team from Udupi to assist the police investigations. Rao was neither in police custody, nor arrested. ''No one has been listed as accused so far in the case. Rao has been provided police protection,'' he added.
He said the post-mortem report from Delhi was likely to be handed over to the Karnataka police in two or three days.
