Bhopal, Jun 19: Nearly 23 lakh tonne wheat has been procured so far in Madhya Pradesh at support price of Rs 1,000 per quintal announced by the Centre, besides Rs 100 bonus declared by the state government.
Farmers have been paid Rs 1375 crore on 22.95 lakh tonne wheat procured by M P Civil Supplies Corporation, Food Corporation of India and Markfed from March this year.
The Civil Supplies Corporation had made arrangements for procurement of wheat at 925 centres through cooperative societies, besides direct procurement from farmers at selected Mandis. The procured wheat would be distributed under public distribution system, official sources said today.
Hoshangabad district tops in wheat procurement with a total of 2,57,414 tonnes. Record procurement was also made in other districts, including Harda, Ujjain, Raisen, Sehore, Indore, Dewas and Dhar.
