10-year jail term for old mother

Sasaram, Jun 19 (UNI) An elderly woman aged about 85 years along with his two sons and a daughter-in-law was handed down a ten-year sentence by the District and Sessions Judge, Rohtas, for killing a newly-married bride for dowry on Wednesday .

Along with the convicts, a two-year old child was also sent to jail with his parents.

The accused after being held guilty by the court on Tuesday, were taken into custody yesterday following the pronouncement of the judgment by the Court.

The old lady in the lap of her son was produced in the court as her health did not permit her to stand on her feet. In the dock too, she was in the lap of her son.

The police said on the direction of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Sasaram, an FIR was lodged on August 2, 2001, against the husband Ajay Chaudhary, his mother Ekwaria Devi, elder brother Faguni Chaudhary and his wife Shakuntala Devi for killing the bride Manju Devi for dowry who was married in 2000.

After the case, they were arrested and later released on bail by the court.

Police in its investigation found the allegation to be true and submitted a chargesheet against the four. On Tuesday, the court convicted the mother, sons and wife. And on Wednesday they were sentenced to ten- year sentence.
