Madurai, Jun 18 (UNI) The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), one of the constituents of the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), today urged DMK President M Karunanidhi to reconsider the ouster of the PMK in the interest of the alliance.
''As one of the constituents of DPA, I will meet Mr Karunanidhi in Chennai in one or two days and appeal to him to reconsider the decision,'' VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan told newspersons here.
Stating that the DMK's decision would prove to be a setback to the DPA in Tamil Nadu, he claimed that some people were happy about the crucial political development. To protect secularism and check divisive communal forces, it was imperative that the DPA was intact in the State.
Mr Thirumavalavan appealed to both the DMK and the PMK to follow a 'forget and forgive' approach to revive ties. Mr Karunanidhi should accept the suggestions of the coalition partners on this issue, he said.
He also said that in connection with the centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister C N Annadurai, all prisoners languishing in jails for over 10 years, including Nalini (accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case), should be released. Besides, 2009 should be declared as 'the year eradicate untouchability'.
