Srinagar, June 18 : Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Wednesday said that the upsurge in militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir is an attempt to disrupt state polls due for later this year.

"Troops are always ready they have high moral, they are in good shapes and are well prepared to meet any challenges but we see many organized attempts by militants to create problems so in the coming months there would be more attempts of infiltration, more attempts to create violence. Be ready to meet any eventualities, any challenges from the militants," said Antony.

During his two-day visit to Srinagar Antony reviewed security situation at a high level meeting of civil and military officials in Srinagar.

He also reviewed security arrangements for two month long Amarnath pilgrimage.

About 280,000 pilgrims are expected to visit the Amarnath cave shrine located in southern Himalayas in Kashmir. The government is providing three-tier security along the pilgrimage route in view of militant threats.

Addressing soldiers at Baramullah in Kashmir Antony lauded the efforts and sacrifice made by the army personnel in combating terrorism in the valley.
