Railway revenue earnings up by 17.96 per cent during June

New Delhi, June 18 : The Railway revenue earnings have gone up by 17.96 per cent during the period June 1 to 10, 2008.

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period were Rs. 2040.79 crore compared to Rs. 1730.05 crore during the same period last year.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1137.91 crore during June 1 to 10, 2007 to Rs. 1408.26 crore during June 1-10, 2008, showing an increase of 23.76 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings during the period June 1 to 10, 2008 were Rs. 561.01 crore compared to Rs. 513.37 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 9.28 per cent.

But the revenue earnings from other coaching showed a decrease of 8.47 per cent amounted to Rs. 49.61 crore during this period compared to Rs. 54.20 crore during the same period last year.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period June 1 to 10, 2008 were 195.30 million compared to 178.65 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 9.32 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during June 1 to 10, 2008 were 107.74 million and 87.56 million compared to 99.25 million and 79.40 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.55 per cent and 10.28 per cent respectively.
