Srinagar Jun 18 (UNI) The authorities in north Kashmir have made a formal request to the Pakistan Army to help to recover the bodies of two engineering students who were drowned in river Jhelum on this side of the Line of Control (LoC) at Uri on June 16.

Official sources said the district authorities had requested the Indian Army to made a formal request to the Pak Army in this regard.

However, search on this side in the river was still going on without any success, they said.

The authorites believed that bodies of Basharat Nabi Sheikh and Nazir Ahmad Mir, final year engineering students of SSM college, Pattan, drowned in the river near NHPC power house Uri, might have entered the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Last month, a driver also drowned in the river and his body was fished out in PoK by the Pak Army. Later, the body was handed over to Indian Army near LoC.

Meanwhile, people of the area said about a dozen people drowned in the river near the same spot allegedly due to negligence of NHPC and CISF guarding the area.

They said no fencing has been constructed by the NHPC on the river bank where water level sometime increases to five to ten feet within just few seconds, taking those present in the area by surprise resutling in casualties.
