MTNL receives ILD licence
New Delhi, Jun 18 (UNI) State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today said it has received the international long distance licence, which would help it in reducing the ISD call rates ushering in a fresh round of competition.
MTNL, in a filing to the BSE today, said it has received International Long Distance (ILD) licence from the Department of Telecom (DoT) for providing International Long Distance services.
This license is expected to help the telecom operator, which provides services in Delhi and Mumbai, to carry its own ILD traffic.
Currently, the routing of most of its ISD traffic through VSNL.
As MTNL's own network is set up for the ISD calls, the carriage cost would fall significantly and thus cut down the operational cost.
At present, mobile ISD rates to the US, Europe, Gulf and Africa ranges from Rs 6.40 to 9.20 per minute.
