Landslides in Arunachal, two districts cut off
Itanagar, Jun 18 (UNI) Surface communication was disrupted in many districts of Arunachal Pradesh following landslides for the past few days.
In Papum Pare district, local administration has issued warning to the people living in landslides zone and river bank to immediately vacate and shift to safer zones.
Kurung Kumey and Lower Subansiri districts are cut off from the rest of the country since yesterday following massive landslides at various points in Ziro Kimin road. It was triggered by incessant rain since the last couple of days.
Although, over 400 labourers were working round the clock to clear the road, it would take more than a week's time to restore surface communication between the state capital and the two districts, official sources said.
Parts of the Yazali police station got eroded away in rain water.
A saw mill was also reported to have been damaged.
80 meters of the Ziro Kimin road have been washed away by gushing water of a river due to breaches, while a 100 metre bridge washed away at Hawa camp.
Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Sadhna Deori informed that essential commodities in the district would last for a week and the district was running short of fuel as well.
She added that there were several blockades along Ziro-Hoj-Potin road and the Public Works Department and NEEPCO authorities were being requested to clear the road as soon as possible for light vehicles.
Torrential rain also affected normal life in Changlang, Tirap, Lohit, Anjaw, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, East Kameng, West Kameng, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang and Upper Subansiri districts.
